Genfluence: Preparing for Five Generations in the Workforce

This workshop is designed for educators preparing the next generation of healthcare leaders who will be working alongside four, soon-to-be five, generations in the workforce.
Grounded in organizational behavior research and informed by practitioner feedback from healthcare organizations across the country, the session examines how generational dynamics, bias, and stereotype threat influence every facet of the modern workplace from how to build trust and design mental health support to delivering feedback. Particular attention is given to the tension between evolving beliefs about work, identity, and well-being and the enduring professional expectations of healthcare roles.
Participants will explore how to equip graduates with the ability to navigate a multigenerational workforce, and capabilities needed to navigate in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape. The session emphasizes practical implications for curriculum design, classroom dialogue, experiential learning and career readiness.
Key Takeaways
- Identify new models explaining generational change and what it means for the healthcare workforce
- Recognize how generational bias and media narratives influence leadership assumptions
